What is Blik anyway?
Blik started in 2002 with a line of self-adhesive wall graphics. The line expanded through licensing agreements with some of our favorite artists and brands where we created collections of wall graphics that were artful, clever, architectural and just great art at the end of the day. Since then, we have taken the artwork and graphic design to different materials and surfaces and developed other product lines including Pattern Wall Tiles, Surface Skins and Art Clocks. In Fall of 2015 we’re excited to bring you great art on more products we all use and see everyday with totes, throw pillows and shower curtains. Stay tuned for even more artful home decor accessories in 2016.
I know all Blik products are removable, but how long will the graphics stay up?
Blik wall decals are perfect for temporary applications but if you take care of them, they will last. For best results, apply the decal within 1 month of receipt. Indoors, Blik will last 1 to 2 years. But do try to keep your Blik design away from direct sunlight and heat sources as heat can release the adhesive and cause the graphics to peel up. We do not recommend applying Blik retail products to an outdoor surface due to weather and temperature changes.
What are Blik wall graphics made from?
Blik products are made from several materials. Wall graphics are made from an ultra-thin, self-adhesive matte* vinyl film. The Blik Re-Stik™ line is made from self-adhesive, polypropylene film. Pattern Wall Tiles are made from eco-friendly fabric based material. Surface Skins are a thicker, more durable self-adhesive vinyl material used for skins. *Some matte vinyl decals will have a clear over laminate that will have a semi-gloss finish. These products include The Not Whiteboard, Writing Paper Dry Erase, Parchment Dry Erase, Notepad Dry Erase, and Graph Paper Dry Erase.
Are the wall decals reusable?
All of our Wall Graphics, Pattern Wall Tiles and Surface Skins are removable but only the Re-Stik line of wall decals is reusable. Look for the word “Re-Stik” in the product name. You can take the Re-Stik decals with you when you move as long as you save the white paper backing they come on. Keep the adhesive backing free of dust, fibers or dirt to extend the Re-Stik life span. All other decals are one time use only. Once they are removed, they cannot be re-applied.
How difficult are BLIK graphics to install?
We rate the level of difficulty on a scale of 1 to 5.
- This is a cake walk. Peel and stick decals that include our Re-Stik line of graphics.
- Easy peasy. These decals are easy to apply but use the transfer method instead of peel and stick. Transfer method includes an overlay (transfer) tape that sits on top of the decal that helps you “transfer” the decal to the wall without it folding up on itself.
- Not easy, but not tough either. They just require a little more time to install. This includes graphics that are larger or with multiple pieces that you need to arrange together to make the full graphic.
- It’s going to be a worthwhile challenge. This is a more difficult decal to install requiring more time and patience but you will be rewarded in the end with a job well done, and lots of complements on your decor sense.
- Grab a pal. For large, complex designs, you need 2 sets of hands to hold the graphic straight so it won’t fold back on itself and help release the graphic from the overlay tape. Trust us on this one. Don’t try it alone.
What are Pattern Wall Tiles?
Pattern Wall Tiles are not wallpaper. They are eco-friendly fabric tiles that bring bursts of pattern into standard home and office spaces in a whole new way. With Pattern Wall Tiles, you can create an accent over a bed, on an interior door or frame a small section of a wall. The tiles are self-adhesive and can be repositioned and moved easily. They are completely customizable and can be cut, crafted, and arranged in a number of ways. Rotate them, combine patterns and use on any smooth flat surface. Pattern Wall Tiles are non-toxic and free of both PVC and phthalates.
Can Pattern Wall Tiles be installed anywhere?
Do NOT install Pattern Wall Tiles in a bathroom or kitchen backsplash to protect the print from getting wet or splashed with liquids. We also do NOT recommend Pattern Wall Tiles in children's playrooms or bedrooms to keep the prints from being scratched or worn from touching or toys moved along the surface.
Can Pattern Wall Tiles be cleaned?
No. To keep the Tiles eco-friendly, there is no protective coating or laminate over the prints so water and too much touching on the surface of the Tiles can damage the print and the Tiles cannot be washed. You can lightly dust with a feather duster but do NOT get the wall tiles wet with water or cleaning solutions or touch or rub hard with your hand or cloth as this may smudge or remove the ink.
What are Surface Skins?
Surface Skins is a new line of super durable, self-adhesive art prints that allow you to personalize just about any large surface in your home or office quickly and easily. Use them to cover desks, tables, cabinets, bookshelves – or whatever. Blik developed Surface Skins to bring some graphic goodness to humdrum furnishings everywhere.
Will Surface Skins work on any surface?
Surface Skins are not meant for walls. Surface Skins work on smooth, finished surfaces such as desks, tabletops, cabinets, dresser drawers, etc. We do not recommend Surface Skins on a kitchen or a bathroom counter. We do not recommend Surface Skins for outdoor surfaces or untreated or rough surfaces such as concrete.
How do I apply Surface Skins?
Surface skins are easy to apply and instructions are included. In short, peel off the paper backing and rest the Surface Skin over the top of your surface without pressing it down. Once it’s in the correct position, press the skin to the surface. The rectangular Surface Skins come with additional material beyond the surface top dimension in order to wrap the sides. If you prefer not to wrap the sides of a surface, trim off the unwanted excess with a blade.
Are Surface Skins easy to remove?
Surface Skins are removable but the decal will bond strongly to the finished surface you applied it to. To remove, peel up an edge and pull, or tug, the skin off the surface. The Surface Skin should lift clean without leaving a residue but if there is any residue just clean the surface with a non-abrasive multi-surface cleaner.
How do I take care of Surface Skins?
Surface Skins are laminated to protect the skin – and your furnishings – from spills. Wipe Surface Skins clean with water or a non-abrasive multi-surface cleaner. If applied to a dining table, we recommend using a trivet under hot dishes. Although the skin will protect the furniture’s surface from minor scratches, it cannot protect the surface from cut marks or gouges.
What are Surface Skins made from?
As with all Blik products, Surface Skins are made from the highest quality self-adhesive vinyl film. They are laminated for extra durability and have a matte finish.
Where are the totes and home accessories made?
Blik has taken some of our favorite artwork and applied the graphics to tote bags, pillows and shower curtains. Look for even more home accessories in 2016. We have partnered with a top-notch vendor in the US to make these products for us. Each order for a tote, pillow or shower curtain is manufactured to order and ships out separately from all other Blik products.
How do totes and home accessories ship?
Tote bags, pillows and shower curtains ship separately from all other Blik products. They ship in 3 to 7 business days (but please note this time can extend up to 10 business days during the months of November and December). They ship by the United States Postal Service both domestic and internationally and a tracking number is provided.
I got my Blik. What do I do now?
Congratulations! First, read the instructions included with your package. Different products require different application methods. Blik products are easy to apply but reading the instructions will save you time and potential installation errors. For vinyl wall decals, please look for a "T" or "P" on your decal sheet and then refer to the application method that corresponds to the letter on the instruction sheet. Blik Re-Stik patterns are easy to apply; all you need to do is peel and stick. For best results, apply your decals within 1 month of receipt.
Will Blik work on all walls?
Apply Blik to smooth surfaces. We do not recommend wall or surfaces that are textured, rough, bumpy or newly painted. Blik is not responsible if graphics applied to a bumpy texture do not stick. Wipe your walls down with a dry cloth to remove any dust or those cobwebs hanging out in the corner. Do NOT wash your surface before installation.
I recently painted my walls, how long should I wait before applying Blik?
If you recently painted your walls, stop now. Do not apply Blik to your walls for at least 2 weeks, or even 3 if it’s cold and damp (or humid) outside. If you apply the decals before the paint is fully cured, the decals will either have trouble adhering to the wall or the adhesive will dry to the paint and when you remove the decals, paint may come off with the decals. Blik is not responsible if graphics applied to a newly painted surface do not stick.
Will Blik adhere to all paint types?
Blik sticks best to semi-gloss but will stick to matte and high gloss paints as well. Blik does NOT stick well to low- or non- VOC paints. Blik will not stick to other specialty paints such as magnetic or chalkboard paints.
Will Blik adhere to textured surfaces?
Blik recommends smooth surfaces. Even lightly textured surfaces such as orange peel texture can prevent the decals from adhering. If your walls are slightly textured, we recommend the Blik Re-Stik line of movable graphics. Blik is not responsible if graphics applied to a bumpy texture do not stick.
What other surfaces can Blik be applied to?
Blik can be applied to other smooth surfaces such as ceilings, glass, sealed concrete floors, smooth metal, tile, plastic surfaces and finished wood furniture. Keep in mind, the less porous the surface the more effort it will take to remove Blik.
Are there surfaces for which Blik is NOT recommended?
Absolutely. Don’t even think about applying Blik to strongly textured surfaces like stucco, concrete blocks, unfinished wood or wood products. Not only will Blik not stick but also the rough texture could puncture the decals. Blik will also not adhere to fibrous materials (fabric), not even unpainted canvas. You can apply Blik to paper-based materials but we do not recommend it unless you are interested in a permanent application. Blik is not removable from paper or wallpaper.
Can you put Blik wall decals in a bathroom?
Wall decals (but NOT Pattern Wall Tiles) can be installed in a well-ventilated bathroom (that’s one that doesn’t steam up during a shower). The walls need to be completely dry before applying. Once again, we do NOT recommend Pattern Wall Tiles for the bathroom or kitchen back splash.
Can you clean Blik decals, Pattern Wall Tiles or Surface Skins?
To clean wall decals, wipe gently with a DRY cloth only. Do not rub vigorously or wash or use any liquid cleaner. Getting a decal wet can release the adhesive or worse - the moisture can affect the ink on printed decals. Surface Skins can be wiped down with a damp cloth or you can use a cleaner such as Windex but do not use an abrasive cleanser. Pattern Wall Tiles can be lightly dusted (no rubbing) but do not wash or get wet.
Is Blik easy to remove? If so, how?
Removal is easy. Peel up an edge with your fingernail and slowly peel the decal off the wall. If you’ve applied Blik to a less porous surface like glass, we recommend that you use a hairdryer (set on low heat) to warm the decal, this releases the adhesive and makes it even easier to peel off. Please keep in mind that designs with multiple pieces will take more time to remove.
Will Blik leave a residue when removed? Or take off the paint?
Blik should not leave any goo on your wall when removed. Since we cannot guarantee the condition of all wall surfaces, we cannot say across the board that some paint removal will not occur. You may notice paint chips on the back of the decals when removed and paint touch up may be required. Blik is not responsible for any damage that may occur.
I would like to apply a Blik design to my car, can I do that?
Yes, you can but keep in mind that Blik decals are scaled for walls and not cars. Also cars get pretty dirty and the original Blik matte material will not be shiny like your car. We do not recommend applying any of the Re-Stik, printed graphics, Pattern Wall Tiles or Surface Skins to your car. Blik is not responsible for any damage that may occur.
