Playful. That’s a word that could be used to describe the new Shriners Hospital for Children Medical Center in Pasadena, CA. It’s not usually an adjective associated with hospitals, but in this case, it's a good one.
The 75,000 square foot facility, which opened its doors in June 2017, was designed by the architectural firms Los Angeles based CO Architects and Portland based SRG Partnership. Their goal was to alleviate the anxiety of a doctor's visit by creating a welcoming Medical Center for young patients and their families. The facility is filled with natural light, a fun interactive wall in the lobby, and colorful murals throughout, including the hallways and exam rooms.
Working with SRG Partnership, BLIK was tasked with bringing the bespoke interior wall murals to life. BLIK manufactured and installed the bright floor-to-ceiling graphics that feature oversized silhouetted animals in nature, enjoying life in their scenic neighborhood. A duck family is out for a stroll, a playful bunny hops along, and a bear is chasing a butterfly.
Cheerful floral borders fill the examination rooms.
