David Bray has been surrounded by art and artists since he was born. His late father worked for 30 odd years at the Royal Academy of Arts in London so David was allowed to wander the galleries before the Royal Academy opened in the morning reveling in this environment of creativity and imagination.
Bray’s work is all about the line and the human form, keeping it fluid and feminine. All the work comes back to the same themes - it’s very inspired by 40′s and 50′s pin-ups, religion, David Lynch, breathlessness, heels, black magic, not drowning in the sea – all mixed up and presented in ink, paint and wool.
Not only is David a popular practicing artist, he is also a successful freelance illustrator since 1996. Some of his corporate clients include Harvey Nichols, H&M, Canon, Vodafone, BBC Television, Nokia, Puma, Virgin, Sony, Kickers and Charles Worthington. His work for magazines include Carlos, Elle, Flaunt, The Sunday Times and Time Out.
