VENICE, CA: Known for producing vibrant large-scale street murals, renowned Spanish illustrator, painter and muralist SAN has created,
"A Host of Fetishes" specifically for Blik. “A Host of Fetishes” brings the artist’s signature illustrative style to a wider audience through a custom designed wall decal. SAN comes to Blik via progressive art brand, Upper Playground.
Born in 1980 in Cän ceres, Spain, SAN began his career in the early nineties painting on walls and furniture in public spaces in Spain. Since his start, SAN's work has been highly figurative and influenced by magical realism, graffiti, and the culinary arts. His wall paintings are designed so that his message can reach as many people as possible and span socio-cultural discrimination and limitations.
In creating a custom piece for Blik, SAN looked to make light of the fact that the graphics would be self-adhesive by adding nails and string to “attach” the design to the wall. The graphic is a personal narrative revealing the artist’s own fetishes which by taking a closer look reveal a bird skull, windmill, building and pin cushion.
SAN's work is ever evolving. In a December 2010 interview with Juxtapoz Magazine, SAN revealed that his work has used "themes of sacredness, classicism, banality, traditionalism, strength, weakness, competition ... all these themes constitutes a new step to lean on to take the next step."
SAN's work has shown in fine art galleries across Europe and the US and has been published in numerous books and magazines. He is planning a US West Coast tour for spring 2011.
