VENICE, CA: Blik, the innovative maker of self-adhesive surface graphics, announces the addition of Hannah Stouffer, Saelee Oh and Amy Ruppel to their roster of fine-art designers. Nature and feminine strength are resounding narratives in each of the three artists work, but it is the poignant differences in their perspectives that make these women and their art so distinctive.
Hannah Stouffer and Saelee Oh are no stranger to Blik as both have teamed-up with Blik collaborators Upper Playground and Giant Robot. And Amy Ruppel has been a favorite of Portland-native and Blik co-founder, Jerinne Neils for years.
Hannah Stouffer
Hannah Stouffer's artistic perspective has been influenced by her early exposure to nature through growing-up with a wildlife cinematographer father and the dualities of her on-going reality.
"I'm constantly creating these stories, based on my own experiences and this endless collection of imagery and obsessions that I have built up in my head," said Hannah in a 2008 interview with XLR8R magazine.
Hannah's "Bone Tree", "Darkest Night" and "Mermaid Skeletons" for Blik are rather haunting, intricate illustrations that smack of heavy metal, the animal kingdom and girlish fantasy. Prices start at $60.
Saelee Oh
Saelee Oh's "Horse", "Swan" and "Spiderweb" designs for Blik depict fairy tale-like scenes of nature and creatures of beauty. The whimsical designs evoke a serenity and femininity common throughout her work. Prices start at $35.
When asked about her creative inspirations (in an 2008 interview with My Love For You... blog), Saelee replied: "I like the idea of being able to make tangible dreams. Lately I've been finding inspiration in the design of nature and how everything is interconnected..."
Amy Ruppel
Amy Ruppel, aka @my, was raised among and is still surrounded daily by nature. Nature's inspiration is clearly at the forefront of her work, which is organic and modern, often depicting birds, trees and various flora & fauna. Blik co-founder, Jerinne Neils first came across @my's work on mutual retailer, Velocity Art & Design, five years ago and has been collecting her work ever since.
The initial release of @my's collection for Blik includes three feminine and vintage designs, "Branches", "Night Owls" and "Night Owls Window." Prices start at $45.
