General Product Information
What is Blik anyway?
Blik is a line of self-adhesive wall graphics including decals, Pattern Wall Tiles and Surface Skins that were created by and for people who like to change their mind. Blik is a great alternative to traditional wallpaper, paint or stencils and the DIY nature of Blik lets you be the artist and create your own wall art. Within minutes, you can transform the look of a living or office space: choose your space, plan the design you’d like to make and when you’re tired of your design, say after years, a month, maybe a day – the products are removable.
I know all Blik products are removable, but how long will the decals stay up?
Blik is perfect for temporary applications but if you take care of it, it will last for years. Indoors, Blik will last 1 to 2 years. But do try to keep your Blik design away from direct sunlight and heat sources as heat can release the adhesive and cause the graphics to peel up. We do not recommend applying Blik retail products to an outdoor surface due to weather and temperature changes.
What are Blik wall decals made from?
Blik is made from an ultra-thin, self-adhesive matte vinyl film. Blik Re-Stik™ is made from a slightly thicker, self-adhesive, polypropylene film.
What is the difference between the original line of Blik wall decals and Blik Re-Stik?
All Blik products are removable but Blik Re-Stik decals are repositionable, so you can move them and change your design. Original Blik is made from a very thin vinyl film, once removed from the wall, the decals cannot be reused. The beauty of original Blik is that people will think you spent hours painting your design when it reality it took only minutes to apply. Blik Re-Stik is made from a slightly thicker material with a very low tack adhesive backing that allows you remove and move the decals. You can even take the Re-Stik decals with you when you move as long as you save the white paper backing they come on. Keep the adhesive backing free of dust, fibers or dirt to extend the Re-Stik life span.
Pattern Wall Tiles
What are Pattern Wall Tiles?
Pattern Wall Tiles are fabric tiles that bring bursts of pattern into standard home and office spaces in a whole new way. With Pattern Wall Tiles, you can create an accent over a bed, on an interior door or frame a small section of a wall. The tiles are self-adhesive and can be repositioned and moved easily. They are completely customizable and can be cut, crafted, and arranged in a number of ways. Rotate them, combine patterns and use on any smooth flat surface. Pattern Wall Tiles are eco-friendly, non-toxic and free of both PVC and phthalates.
Can Pattern Wall Tiles be installed in a bathroom or kitchen?
Do NOT install Pattern Wall Tiles in a bathroom or kitchen backsplash to protect the print from getting wet or splashed with liquids. Water can damage the print.
Can Pattern Wall Tiles be cleaned?
To clean, dust gently with a dry cloth. Do not get the wall tiles wet with water or cleaning solutions or rub hard with your hand or cloth as this may affect the ink.
What are Surface Skins?
Surface Skins is a new line of super durable, self-adhesive art prints that allow you to personalize just about any large surface in your home or office quickly and easily. Use them to cover desks, tables, cabinets, bookshelves – or whatever. Blik developed Surface Skins to bring some graphic goodness to humdrum furnishings everywhere.
Will Surface Skins work on any surface?
No, Surface Skins work on smooth, finished surfaces such as desks, tabletops, cabinets, dresser drawers, etc. Surface Skins are not meant for walls. Do not apply Surface Skins on a kitchen or a bathroom counter. We do not recommend Surface Skins for outdoor surfaces or untreated or rough surfaces such as concrete.
How do I apply Surface Skins?
Surface skins are easy to apply and instructions are included. In short, peel off the paper backing and rest or “float” the Surface Skin over the top of your surface. Once it’s in the correct position, press the skin to the surface. Each Surface Skin size comes with additional material beyond the surface top dimension in order to wrap the sides. If you prefer not to wrap the sides of a surface, trim off the unwanted excess with a blade.
Are Surface Skins easy to remove?
Yes, peel up an edge and pull the skin off the surface. The Surface Skin should lift clean without leaving a residue but if there is any residue just clean the surface with a non-abrasive multi-surface cleaner.
How do I take care of Surface Skins?
Surface Skins are laminated to protect the skin – and your furnishings – from spills. Wipe Surface Skins clean with water or a non-abrasive multi-surface cleaner. If applied to a dining table, we recommend using a trivet under hot dishes. Although the skin will protect the furniture’s surface from minor scratches, it cannot protect the surface from cut marks or gouges.
What are Surface Skins made from?
As with all Blik products, Surface Skins are made from the highest quality self-adhesive vinyl film. They are laminated for extra durability and have a matte finish.
Application Tips: What To Do and What Not To Do
I got my Blik. What do I do now?
Congratulations! First, read the instructions. Yes, Blik is easy to apply but reading the instructions will save you time and potential errors. Also, check out our fun “How To” installation videos for helpful tips and tricks. For vinyl wall decals, please look for a “T” or “P” on your decal sheet and then refer to the application method that corresponds to the letter on the instruction sheet. Blik Re-Stik patterns are easy to apply; all you need to do is peel and stick.
Will Blik work on all walls?
No. Apply Blik to smooth surfaces. We do not recommend wall or surfaces that are textured, rough, bumpy or newly painted. Blik is not responsible if graphics applied to a bumpy texture do not stick. Wipe your walls down with a dry cloth to remove any dust or those cobwebs hanging out in the corner. Do NOT wash your surface before installation.
I recently painted my walls, how long should I wait before applying Blik?
If you recently painted your walls, stop now. Do not apply Blik to your walls for at least 2 weeks, or even 3 if it’s cold and damp (or humid) outside. If you apply the decals before the paint is fully cured, the decals will either have trouble adhering to the wall or the adhesive will dry to the paint and when you remove the decals, paint may come off with the decals. Blik is not responsible if graphics applied to a newly painted surface do not stick.
Will Blik adhere to all paint types?
Blik sticks best to semi-gloss but will stick to matte and high gloss paints as well. Blik does not stick well to low VOC paints.
Will Blik adhere to textured surfaces?
Blik recommends smooth surfaces. Even lightly textured surfaces such as orange peel texture can prevent the decals from adhering. If your walls are slightly textured, we recommend the Blik Re-Stik line of movable graphics. Blik is not responsible if graphics applied to a bumpy texture do not stick.
What other surfaces can Blik be applied to?
Blik can be applied to other smooth surfaces such as ceilings, glass, sealed concrete floors, smooth metal, tile, plastic surfaces and finished wood furniture. Keep in mind, the less porous the surface the more effort it will take to remove Blik.
Are there surfaces for which Blik is NOT recommended?
Absolutely. Don’t even think about applying Blik to strongly textured surfaces like stucco, concrete blocks, unfinished wood or wood products. Not only will Blik not stick but also the rough texture will most likely puncture the decals. Blik will also not adhere to fibrous materials (fabric), not even unpainted canvas. You can apply Blik to paper-based materials but we do not recommend it unless you are interested in a permanent application. Blik is not removable from paper or wallpaper.
Can you put Blik wall decals in a bathroom?
Wall decals (but NOT Pattern Wall Tiles) can be installed in a bathroom, just not right after a shower. Blik decals can take the humidity of a bathroom but the walls need to be completely dry before applying. You can stick the decals to the walls, tiles, shower curtains and even – the toilet! Once again, we do NOT recommend Pattern Wall Tiles for the bathroom or kitchen back splash.
Can you clean Blik decals or Pattern Wall Tiles?
To clean, wipe gently with a DRY cloth only. Do not rub vigorously or wash or use any liquid cleaner. Getting a decal wet can release the adhesive or worse – the moisture can affect the ink on printed decals and Pattern Wall Tiles.
Is Blik easy to remove? If so, how?
Removal is easy. Peel up an edge with your fingernail and slowly peel the decal off the wall. If you’ve applied Blik to a less porous surface like glass, we recommend that you use a hairdryer (set on low heat) to warm the decal, this releases the adhesive and makes it even easier to peel off.
Will Blik leave a residue when removed? Or take off the paint?
Blik should not leave any goo on your wall when removed. Since we cannot guarantee the condition of all wall surfaces, we cannot say across the board that some paint removal will not occur. You may notice paint chips on the back of the decals when removed and paint touch up may be required. Blik is not responsible for any damage that may occur.
I would like to apply a Blik design to my car, can I do that?
Yes, you can but keep in mind that Blik decals are scaled for walls and not cars. Also cars get pretty dirty and the original Blik matte material will not be shiny like your car. We do not recommend applying any of the Re-Stik or artist printed graphics to your car. Blik is not responsible for any damage that may occur.
