BLIK SALE ON FAB.COM: APRIL 17

We are kicking off a new sale with Fab.com on Tuesday, April 17. What’s so cool about Fab? The year-old private sale site features daily design inspirations and sales at up to 70% off retail. We love that the design curators at Fab find truly interesting items that make us think, “now that is cool!”

We curated our own sale to give you an eclectic mix of Blik graphics as we roll into our 10th year. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 17. And if you haven’t jumped on the Fab train, what are you waiting for? This train is leaving the station at 8am PST.

Keith Haring Pattern Wall Tiles + Keith Haring Exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum

The long week is over and if that’s not enough to get you excited, we’ve got some news that will really get you dancing. One of our most beloved Blik artists, Keith Haring has an exhibit opening today at the Brooklyn Museum. Keith Haring: 1978-1982 is the first large-scale exhibition of his early career tracing the development of Haring’s visual vocabulary. The exhibition includes 155 works on paper, numerous experimental videos and over 150 archival objects.

Can’t make it to NY? Let us bring Haring to you. Launching today are Keith Haring ~ Pattern Wall Tiles. These new, self-adhesive fabric tiles are eco-friendly, non-toxic and free of both PVC and phthalates. Bring a burst of Haring into your home or office with repeating pattern tiles. The wall tiles are available at Blik and at the Brooklyn Museum shop.

Does this pattern look familiar? It’s adapted from Keith Haring’s Pop Shop and a version of this design was the backdrop for a special Pop Shop installation at Pace Prints in New York City last fall.

VENICE CANALS HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE

As you probably know, Blik is based in the normally sunny and always eclectic Venice, CA. Last night was the Venice Canals Holiday Boat Parade and we thought we’d give you a little taste of the flavor of Venice during the Christmas season. We love watching and cheering the creative and crazy boats parading up and down the the canals for the holidays. It is truly Venice at its best – a mix of Venice funk, bohemia, Hollywood and the holidays all in one.

Prizes were handed out for the  “Best Decorated Boat,” “Best Lit Boat,” “and Best Dressed Homes & Bridges.” This year we saw lots of “Occupy North Pole” themes. Here are a few photos we took last night. Check out Yo! Venice for a complete slideshow of the festivities.

SUPER COOL SUPER IAM8BIT

Have you heard about the amazing SUPER iam8bit art show opening tonight in LA? It’s going to be awesome! It’s coming to you from our friends at iam8bit, who are a production company, a marketing boutique and an events producer. Just think of them as a jack-of-all-trades. With a mandate of “making awesome things,” you know it will be good.

About the Show. SUPER iam8bit is a celebration of art inspired by 80′s video games. Over 100 artists will re-imagine their 80′s gaming nostalgic fantasies through all sorts of media — painting, sculpture, plush, and even some more interactive experimentation. Highlights include an interactive, “retro-fied” Kinect hack from Double Fine super-artist Drew Skillman (see him below in the green shirt). We’re looking forward to that.

Blik is Proud to Participate. iam8bit asked Blik to bring an exciting gaming energy to the space and transform the entire gallery into an 80′s gaming wonderland. Our designers constructed collages (inside each collage are over 50 games including PAC-MAN, Super Mario Bros, TRON, Qbert and Punch-Out)  that were blown-up and cut into panels and wrapped around the space. In addition to all the graphics inside, we also designed the window glass graphics and iam8bit’s giant logo.

Galaga’s 30th Anniversary! The show will also feature a special tribute to Galaga’s 30th anniversary with the world’s largest “arcade cabinet” that was designed by us. This giant Galaga will have an enormous projection of live gaming going on at the show. And how cool is this? The player with the highest score will win an original Galaga arcade game.

If you’re not already excited about this art show, here is a sneak preview of a few of our installation photos. This show is going to be the LA art show to attend this summer. But don’t just take our word for it, get over there and check it out for yourself! The show runs from August 11 until September 10. For location details, visit iam8bit.

Scott Flora speaks at Creative Mornings Los Angeles

Last Friday, Blik co-founder Scott Flora was the speaker at Creative Mornings Los Angeles. Creative Mornings is a monthly breakfast lecture series of creative types. The event was held in downtown LA in the historic Old Bank Building.

The Creative Mornings crowd

Not to give Scott a big head, but his talk was both inspiring and motivating. He spoke about how he and his business partner, Jerinne Neils (Blik co-founder), began Blik with a simple idea – wall stickers that could transform a room in minutes. During the lecture, Scott visually walked the audience through the evolution of the company from the early stages of manufacturing to design inspirations, collaborating with like-minded brands and defining a new product category.

We’d like to give a big thank you to Jon Setzen for inviting us to speak and organizing everything. Cicilia Teng took some great photos that you can check out here.

Craww Show at C.A.V.E Gallery

craww_show_blog

Blik artist Craww, who just debuted three new graphics at Blik (FoxBearDeer), is having his first U.S. exhibition at our neighbor, the C.A.V.E. Gallery in Venice. The show, “Crooked Comfort” opens on December 10 and runs through January 7.

The series of new works featured in “Crooked Comfort” is a story without an end – a stream of consciousness ramble through the woods, populated with skulls, crows and pensive girls with conspicuous hands, individually emanating a melancholy force of beauty.

Join us at the opening night party on Friday, December 10 from 7-10pm, where we’ll have limited-editon, Craww-designed Prayer tees and five of Craww’s new wall graphics to give away. Plus, you can checkout the C.A.V.E. Gallery’s new location on trendy Abbot Kinney.
