New Herbert Baglione by Upper Playground

Adobe Photoshop PDF

Upper Playground is no stranger to Blik with their already extensive line of wall graphics available online. That’s why we’re pleased to announce three more additions that are South American inspired contemporary art pieces by Herbert Baglione.

Enjoy the simple beauty of “Hands to Sky,” where a seated man with a branch-like shape emanating from his back raises his palms as if in supplication or offering. Or take pleasure in the two uncanny characters of “Mulher Skull,” who have a melancholy and somber essence that is intriguing and mysterious. In the third graphic “Navigating by the Stars,” a dark figure emerges from the mouth of a majestic fish to form a circular composition.

These bold graphics are the perfect way to bring a piece of South America into your home.

Koi by Ilan Dei: Zen for your walls

id_blog2id_blog1

Ilan Dei takes his current line of Blik graphics into a new direction with the addition of Koi. Koi explores the idea of using layering, shadows, and dimension to achieve a look that is truly inventive and pushes the limitations of 2 dimensional design. The great detail within this graphic makes it appear to almost be moving. The two large colorful Koi fish dance in the water, while large green lily pads float across the surface, and a beautiful black dragonfly whizzes by in the sky.

“Through the exploration of color in the lily pads and the shadows strategically placed underneath the koi, I was able to create an optical illusion” according to Dei. He explains, “Every element in this graphic represents a layer of dimension. I wanted to create a story with a subtle movement on the wall, to bring nature indoors.”

This serene and tranquil graphic will transform your space and your mood.

GIVEAWAY: Ilan Dei Studio was one of Blik’s first designer collaborations. Some of you may remember Ilan’s earlier designs like Leaves and Crescent. New graphics for Fall: Threadless X Blik

Thanks to your votes, the next 3 Threadless graphics have been chosen and are here at Blik to kick off the Fall season.

Now that summer is over, it doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! The weather may be getting colder but bubble blowing is a year round activity with “Blowfish,” by Andy Gonsalves.  Grab a pen and paper and get creative with “Inkspired” by Seth Beukes. If these ideas are too active for you, then watch the leaves change color while eating as many cookies as you can with “Cookies,” by Tang Yongfa.

Voting Booth: Every six weeks, the Blik team selects and posts some of our favorite Threadless original tee shirt designs, and in the spirit of Threadless we’re asking you to tell us which designs should be the inspiration for a new set of wall graphics. Select “Blik It” if you like it, or “Nix It” if you think it just wouldn’t work. Then click the vote button to send us your choice and see how everyone else is voting on that design. Check out the Voting Booth now to start voting!

GIVEAWAY: ILAN DEI STUDIO SIDE TABLE

Venice neighbor and frequent collaborator, Ilan Dei just added two new wall graphics to his existing popular collection at Blik. Ilan’s inspiration for the “Calla” and “Rose” botanical graphics came from his love of nature combined with his clean design aesthetic. Calla is towering calla lillies standing over 6ft tall that command attention on any surface, while Rose plays on the iconic shape and quality of a rose.

GIVEAWAY! To celebrate the launch of the new graphics, we are giving away two side tables from the Ilan Dei Studio. The table is perfect for indoor or outdoor summer entertaining. Retailing for $240 each, the weather-resistant plywood and acrylic side tables are part of the Studio’s Aquarium Collection. Inspired by light, the acrylic top is translucent and casts an amber glow when the table is placed in direct sunlight. Even better, the table comes with two sheets of vintage Ilan Dei for Blik “Nature” wall graphics that can easily be applied underneath the acrylic top to create a custom one-of-a-kind piece. You stick it and Blik it.

Contest Details: Comment on this blog post or like us on Facebook and let us know what you think of the table and where you’d use it this summer. On June 24, we’ll pick two design savvy winners who will each receive an Aquarium side table. The giveaway is only open to residents in the contiguous United States (excludes Alaska and Hawaii.) Contest runs from June 16, 2010 at 12:00am PST to 11:59pm PST on June 23, 2010. Winners will be notified on June 24, 2010.

86503630

LA-based surrealist painter, Greg “Craola” Simkins created three new dark and mysterious graphics for Blik: “Raptor,” Parrot” and “Charon.” The graphics embody a fantasy world of vivid nature images coined by Simkins as the eco-structure of “The Outside.” According to Simkins, “The Outside” is a world in which to escape and inhabit, and for others to enjoy.

Follow @whatisblik on Twitter and tweet about your favorite Craola graphic from Wednesday, June 2 until Thursday, June 3 at 11:59pm PST. Water Ripple Fireplace by Ilan Dei Studio

Inspired by the always changing surfaces and textures of water, Ilan Dei created this private residence fireplace to capture the same interplay of light and shadows that you see in smooth water ripples. The video documents the process from the initial sketches, through 3D modeling in Rhino, to building the finished fireplace using 3D milling, fiberglass molding and plaster as the finished material.

Scion Installation 6 Video: Eric Nakamura & Saelee Oh Interview

Saelee Oh and Eric Nakamura discuss their animated paper art video piece that is currently featured in Scion’s Installation 6: Video national art tour. They give great insight into how they painstakingly created their short – lots of freestyle scissor work, late nights, a little complaining and of course, fun. The Scion Installation 6: video national art tour heads next to Minneapolis opening on Friday, May 7 at the Pink Hobo.

Now in its 6th year, this revolutionary art tour is designed to expose established and emerging artists and their work to audiences across the country. “Installation 6: Video” challenged 10 artists to create non-narrative video installations that will eventually transform five unique exhibitions around the country.
