The other day, while perusing our favorite design blogs (as we do every day), we were delighted to find a stunning photo incorporating blik’s Flying Paper Plane by Mel Lim on Grace Bonney’s beloved blog, Design*Sponge. First of all, the Portland house, decorated by Jessica Helgerson of Jessica Helgerson Interior Design, was so impeccably done, we all wanted to move in. It didn’t hurt that we have a few Portland natives in the house. But no matter where you’re from, you’ll want to make this house your home too. It is simply done with striking details, airy, cozy and tranquil. We felt the kids room with Flying Paper Plane illustrates perfectly how a child’s room can incorporate whimsy yet still be timeless. eames commemorative stamps

Check out these amazing stamps in recognition of legendary designers, Charles and Ray Eames, and their groundbreaking contributions to architecture, furniture design, manufacturing and photographic arts. These collectables come as a pane of 16 stamps designed by graphic designer Derry Noyes of Washington, DC. Perhaps best known for their furniture, the Eameses were husband and wife as well as design partners. Their extraordinary body of creative work reflected the nation’s youthful and inventive outlook after World War II. Without abandoning tradition, Charles and Ray Eames used new materials and technology to create high-quality products that addressed everyday problems and made modern design available to the American public.
We are fortunate enough to have licenses to two of their striking designs, Crosspatch and Circles. As you can see, Crosspatch was included as one of the designs on the stamps. The collectables are available now at your local post office…well, what’s left of them, anyway. We kinda went crazy.
blik heads into the sunset

We recently got a call from Sarah Gaffney, the Sunset Idea House program manager, who gave us the great news that they wanted to use blik in the 2008 Menlo Park Idea House. Twice a year, Sunset Magazine decks out a house with their current ideas for turning a house into a home.
The Menlo Park Idea House characterizes the clean slate that many families face when moving into a “just-built” setting. In designing the home, Sunset tackled questions like: How do we turn this new house and garden into a comfortable home? Can we combine exciting new pieces of furniture and art with well-loved family collectibles? How do we create a sense of style that feels authentic and lived in? They hope their answers, on display in the house, will inspire innovative yet simple ideas for everyone. For us, it was an honor to be included as just one possible answer to the decor challenges we know all too well.
For Sarah’s highlights and select photos, check out her blog posting about the house. For information on visiting the house: Open House Information.

Ilan Dei ANISE by blik brings a bit of the outdoors, in…and looks great against Ben Moore’s Soleil AF-330.

We love the way they used Threadless RADIOS by blik to add interest to plain old window coverings.
we’re nesting

Created by The Knot, the number one wedding website, The Nest is a “24-7 virtual married-best-friend who’s been there.” The site, the magazine, and thousands of just-married members dish out advice on everything from how to get your permanent roommate to pick up his dirty socks, to how to inspect a property when you’re buying your first home, to foolproof recipes for entertaining the in-laws — all 100% committed to the phrase “happily ever after.”
Needless to say, we were pretty happy when we found out we’re included in their newest book, The Nest Home Design Handbook (and made the cover to boot). Thanks, Nesties! We hope your readers will find oodles of inspiration and that blik can help them beautify their space quickly and easily. It’s kinda why blik was born in the first place.
avalonbay windows

We are in the middle of a spectacular custom project for award-winning real estate development and management firm, AvalonBay Communities. The spacious lobby of their home office has gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows, 36 feet wide and 23 feet high. We’ve been collaborating with NY-based architecture firm, Kliment Halsband, on an inspired way to help temper the sunlight streaming through. The core concept is centered around the illusion of falling leaves; the challenge is to convey the idea flawlessly. We conducted a test for Avalon in which our talented production team worked a lot of the magic by hand. It turned out awesome, so we couldn’t help showing off some of their beautiful work. Looks like stained glass, don’t you think? The project continues…stay tuned.
reading hospital

As you know, blik has a thriving custom business that lets clients realize their own unique vision for a space, be it commercial or residential. Whether we engineer the designs, collaborate on them, or simply execute them, blik allows you to dramatically change the look of a room and mix things up when it’s time for something new…because it’s removable…but you knew that.
Since blik can also be wiped down, we get quite a few calls from hospitals eager to elevate the atmosphere of recovery rooms, radiology departments, etc. They are some of our favorite projects. Recently, premiere architecture and interior design firm, Ballinger, brought us in to help add visual interest to the pediatrics wing of the Reading Hospital and Medical Center in Pennsylvania. The project is still a work-in-progress but we thought we’d share the development process with you. Here are schematics detailing the blik’d designs we’ll bring to each room. We’ll keep you posted as the project comes to life.
blik is behance’d
Heather Ann Snodgrass, editorial director of revered design blog, joshspear.com, recently took over editorship of online magazine, Behance.com. A terrific resource, Behance features the work and insights of professionals across creative industries. It not only features artists, designers, entrepreneurs, and photographers, but also conceives methodology, products and online tools for creative professionals. Their passion is to help people “make ideas happen.” We love that. Needless to say, we were thrilled to be profiled this week: Behance
blik on Divine Design
Every once in a while, one of our friends or relatives excitedly calls us to say they saw our Keith Haring designs on Candice Olson’s “Divine Design”. If you haven’t seen the episode, we thought we’d share some highlights–perhaps you’ll find some inspiration. Tatiana wanted a modern yet age-appropriate look for her baby girl’s room. She also wanted the style of the room to reflect her daughter’s taste as she grows. Enter: blik. Candice captures the essence of blik’s temporary nature and how it allows the look of a room to change over time. Can you count how many blik Haring designs were used? There’s a wild card in the bunch too (hint: check out the windows). Thanks, Candice!
fly spotting

UK magazine, Grand Designs, is the counterpart to their Channel 4 TV show hosted by Kevin McCloud. They pride themselves on spotting “…the latest trends in design and identify the hottest designers to look out for, plus there are tons of practical ideas and advice for the home”. The Feb issue has a spread on the dazzling state of wall treatments today and they threw a little blik Fly into the landscape. We thought it was pretty, so we had to share. Mmmm…pretty…
To all you UK shoppers, Supernice, our UK distributor, lists all the retail shops that sell blik in the UK and across Europe – and you can even buy direct! Check ‘em out: Supernice
stylemax booth gets pimped out

Last fall, Michelle Alcott & Associates contacted us wanting something striking and original for their booth at STYLEMAX, a quarterly women’s apparel and accessory trade show that brings buyers what’s hot, what’s happening and what’s next in the marketplace. The show houses upwards of 4,000 resources in more than 200,000 square feet at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago, so as an exhibitor, you wanna stand out amidst the madness. We put our in-house designer, Jeremy, on the case who conjured up this mural of blik Chandelier in graphite and snow. It shows how much you can do with just one design on one wall. You can overlap, repeat, even trim the same graphic to create your own custom artwork. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box when you blik out your space. Thanks MA&A for sending these pictures along; we’re glad to hear you’re planning to use the wall for upcoming shows.
