AN ODE TO HYBRID DESIGN

A few weeks ago, we had a contest to write a short story (of 100 words or less) about one of the Hybrid Design for Blik wall graphics. The contest coincided with the launch of four new graphics: Visible Ghost, Visible Robot, Heart Breakout & Bike Love from San Francisco-based design duo Hybrid Design. We had a number of great entries and thought we’d share a couple of our favorites with you. Every winner got a limited edition, hand silk-screened Hybrid Design print.

Visible Ghost Short Story by Fred Abercrombie

“Worms on fingers. Bugs on palms.

Fish in the tummy. And bats make yawns.

He rocks tighty whiteys and sometimes thongs.

He’s the Visible Ghost. And he glows like Tron.”

Bike Love Short Story by Stephanie Enders

I’m falling for a bicycle that’s way out of my league. She’s lovely – lilac, classic but with a modern sensibility. Even her name makes me swoon: Donna. Problem is she’s already has a boyfriend, darn Uomo. Uomo’s full of Italian bravado and charm; and here I am a mousey prairie girl from Alberta. I’ve never felt this way about a little lady before, always been into 70’s ten-speeds and their boyish good looks. I’m so confused! What’s a thrift-shop city cruiser to do? I wish that ABICI shop never opened in this town. I was happy before I knew Donna was out there.
